Brussels, 08 May 2005 From: Ms. A. Tajdar EU Representative of the EU Iran of Tommorow Movement 17328 Ventura Blvrb. #209 Encino, CA 91316 USA Phone: 001-818-986-0200 Fax: 001-818-474-7229 Website: www.sosiran.com To the honourable Members of the European Parliament, Ms. Angelika Beer is Member of the European Parliament and also head of the Parliament's Iran delegation, which visited the Iranian's Parliament late April 2005. On her website, http://www.angelika-beer.de, there is an interview available about her personal opinion on her recent visit to the Iranian Parliament. Title of this interview is - in German - "Interview zur Iranreise: Deutliche Signale erkannt". In this interview, and in an aswer to the question, that the discussions on the nuclear proliferation and economic co-operation have reached a dead end she replies the following. Ms. Beer argues that as long as there are negotations, there is a chance for a solution. Negotiations are key elements in the European policy towards Iran. She also argues that the EU is looking after a friendly co-existence with the near and middle-east. This is the result of the USA preventive strike against Iraq. Furthermore, she argues that in order to reach the objective of friendly co-existence the tough negotations on Iran's civilian nuclear program, the economic and human rights issues should be furthered. In reaction to this answer, the following: 1. There is a gap between what the EU Commission is demanding and what the so-called representative of the EU Palriament on Iran is demanding. The Commission demands a complete renounciation of the nuclear program, whilst Ms. Beer is asking continuation of nuclear negotiations for civil purposes. 2. Peaceful co-existence with which countries of the near and middle-east? Peaceful co-existence with countries such as Israel, Turkey and Lebanon is in the best interest of the EU. However, the policies of the EU on the near east should not be the same for the coutries of the middle-east. This becasue of the different geo-political settings, and the internal political struggles faced by the countries of the middl-east. How can a member of the EU Parliament demand peaceful co-existence with a ruling clergy in Iran who are the first and foremost sponsor of interantional terrorism? Let Ms. Beer be reminded of the terrible consequences of the British and French peaceful 'detente politic' of the late 1930 in Europe with Nazi Germany. 3. On human rights dialogue, only recently did the UN High Office for Human Rights want to make a declaration on the human rights record of Iran. This declaration was rejected by three EU countries. Ms. Beer argues that the EU is bound by the UN Chater for Human Rights, and that human rights are not tradable. Ms. Beer, Iranians hold you accountable for what you say with respect to human rights. Human rights are vehemently oppressed by the ruling Iranian clergy. (Please link to http://www.irna.ir/en/news/view/menu-234/0505051049194028.htm, where Ayatollah Shahroudi admitted that the Islamic Republic is violating human rights for political puposes). There are more than 4000 political prisoners in Iran. Minorities are oppressed and have no freedom. On a daily basis pro-democracy and non-violent movements gain momentum in their effort to change the government. I seriously wonder if Ms. Beer has any clue or understanding of the harsh realities that Iranians are facing today when it comes to human rights violation, economic struggles, poverty, prostitution and drug addiction, all of which have reached epidemic proportions in Iran. The coming elections in Iran are being boycotted worldwide by Iranians, because we do not consider the currnet government legitimate or representative of the will of the people. Reconsider your notion of 'dialogue with mullahs' Ms. Beer. Iran is changing, and when the tie turns Iranians will look back upon your actions, and they will demand justice. |
